Although this year’s Nevada Day celebration falls on Saturday, Oct. 29, the Nevada State Museum is inviting the public for a pre-party.

Actually, it’s their 75th birthday — and yes, there’s going to be cake, thanks to Carson High School seniors.

But most importantly, special museum medallions will be minted and sold that day — made out of a limited number from Nevada silver.

Also, there’s so much more to the museum. A free admission of a Behind the Scenes tour will be held all weekend, from Friday to Sunday. Mark Twain — played by Nevada award winner for Excellence in School and Library Service, McAvoy Layne — will be in the area for meet and greets.

Also in attendance will be current museum board and board members. Members of Guild and Russell are expected to show, as founding fathers families will be on hand.

During the day of the event, there will be activities for kids of all ages, and food, raffles, and t-shirts for sale.

The anniversary event is Friday, Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum.

The museum is also searching for locals born on Oct. 31, 1941 to celebrate the big 75 with them. Tips can be submitted by calling 775-687-4810.
