Primary voting process needs improvement

Sen. Settelmeyer’s Senate Bill 103 proposes an open and inclusive primary election system. Failure to even bring the bill to a vote is anathema to the public’s best interest and the political process.

The current arrangement not only limits voter participation, it also hinders opportunities for office seekers and promotes adversarial politics.

Political parties claim the desire for unity, tolerance and knowledgeable voter engagement. If the politicians truly have faith in their platforms and policies, they should welcome maximum transparency and access to their ideologies.

The acrimonious partisanship polarizing our political landscape has reached a point of absurdity and only serves to undermine effective governance.
