Dayton continues winning ways

RENO — Dayton scored six runs in the first three innings, and then held off a late surge by South Tahoe to grab a 9-5 Northern 3A win Tuesday night at Greater Nevada Field.

Dayton outhit South Tahoe 15-5, which was impressive considering the Dust Devils were off last weekend.

“I was concerned with the week off we might come out flat not having seen live pitching,” coach Mike Burrows said. “The middle part of our order really came through when we needed it. It was nice to see Zach (Woitas) get some balls to drop. He has been hitting the ball hard, but right at people lately. Nick (Hein) and Jake (Madson) also had good days at the plate.”

Woitas went 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Madson went 3-for-3. Trevor Burrows, Jessie Schmidt and Justin Schmidt had two hits apiece.

Burrows threw 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out 10.

Manogue edges Douglas

MINDEN — A five-run third inning rally was the difference Tuesday afternoon in Bishop Manogue’s 9-5 Northern 4A baseball win against Douglas.

Michael Davis and Rylan Charles drove in two runs each on back-to-back singles in the third inning as Manogue broke a 2-all tie and moved out front to stay.

Manogue scored twice on bases loaded walks in the first inning. The Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Haden Keller sacrifice fly and Haydn Brown’s solo home run to right field.

Douglas scored three runs in the seventh to pull within 9-5. The Tigers finished with four hits overall.

Angelo Reviglio pitched 4.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Reviglio came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning and retired the side with a strikeout.

Haydn Brown pitched 4.1 innings in relief for Douglas and allowed two unearned runs on four hits. Isaiah Schat started for the Tigers.
