A splendid present: Robert M. Holand, Esq., of this place now absent at the East, has presented Curry Engine Company No. 2 with a magnificent lamp for their engine. The present was received yesterday and is now on exhibition at the Magnolia Saloon.

Tony Banning, an African-American man well known in Carson, was found dying in bed by Lottie Banning, as she calls herself, at her home early this morning. Mr. Von Radesky and Deputy Coroner Evans left by auto for the home which is about a mile from town, at what is known as the Job Smith Ranch. The deceased was a well known character about Carson, having lived here since 1875.

State Sen. James Slattery of Reno, a three-time champion, was named Nevada’s chief frog handler today by Gov. Paul Laxalt. Slattery, a Republican, will represent the governor at the annual international frog jumping contest in Angels Camp.

Owners and sellers of mopeds told an Assembly committee they support registering mopeds with the Department of Motor Vehicles but oppose requiring moped riders to have insurance and wear helmets.
