SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Time to turn Carson City blue

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Chris Chrystal, Susan Sutton, Barbara Nicholas and Donna Schultz for leading the effort to support law enforcement next month during National Police Week and really to make the effort permanent in Carson City. In the effort, Carson City is participating in Shine Blue Lights, a national campaign where residents put blue light bulbs on their front porches in support of law enforcement. So Carson City, it’s time to turn this community blue. Also thanks to community partners who are also participating in the campaign, including the Downtown Business Association, WEDCO, Inc., Carson City Visitor’s Bureau, Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs and Dick Campagni Auto Group, who’s giving out free blue lights at their Toyota, Ford and Hyundai dealerships.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson Middle School Maker’s Club and the students who participate in the club for their innovative way of making high-tech and industrial products.

SILVER DOLLAR: To No Limits Martial Arts Academy for its Leadership Program that teaches its students to give back to the community.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson High Career and Technical Education students Makaela Bigley, Skylor Olshefsky, and Zachary Vestal who spent about 500 hours developing the replica of the Carson City Mint to commemorate the Nevada State Museum’s 75th birthday cake, created by the CHS culinary club.
