The Carson City FireHouse Subs is looking to help first responders with their annual H20 for Heroes drive.
The event is a fundraiser to help local first responders beat the heat by collecting cases of water in exchange for sandwiches.
Every guest who donates a 24-pack of unopened bottled water to a FireHouse Subs will receive a free medium sub.
The fundraiser started in 2012 when Phoenix-area franchisees Jerry and Windy Griffin launched H20 for Heroes as a local initiative to encourage bottled water donations at a time when wildfires and drastic heat had depleted the supplies of several first responder organizations.
“When my husband Jerry and I came up with the idea to start H20 for Heroes, we never imagined the response from the community would be so overwhelmingly supportive,” said Windy.
The purpose is to help departments in need of water during the hot summer months when risk of dehydration and other heat-related illnesses is highest.
“We hear from so many departments that don’t have the additional money to purchase bottled water, and the donations they receive from our guests assist them in a variety of emergency situations,” said Windy. “From hydrating firefighters in the scorching summer heat to keeping K9 officers cool on patrol, this water is a life-saving tool.”
Last year, nationwide, FireHouse Subs donated more than 580,000 bottles of water to local heroes and citizens in need.
The fundraiser will run Saturday, Aug. 5 in Carson City.
