150 Years Ago

The Dog Days are upon us, sure enough. For three or four consecutive afternoons the sky has been overcast by big, rainy looking clouds, and there must have been at least the sixteenth part of a inch of rain in the various sprinklings of the afternoon. It reminded one of home-spun weather, in the white settlements to run through the damp grass yesterday and smell the odors that were waifed across the fields that lie to the westward.

The scheme of tapping Lake Tahoe and utilizing the splendid water power for irrigation and manufactures, has not been abandoned. The failure of the Legislature to grant a franchise will not effect the scheme.

100 Years Ago

Ray Baker left for Washington, D.C., where he called the board together for the purpose of taking of the opening of the Carson Mint. Mr. Baker has spent several weeks in this state and on the coast looking into the feasibility of the matter.

70 Years Ago

Maybe it was the music — and then again, maybe not. Something prompted a California citizen to stop and live in Carson City instead of traveling through. The Californian listened to the recent Friday night band concerns and then watched enthusiastic responses response from the crowd. He now has a job in Carson City and intends to settle down here.

50 Years Ago

Boys from all over the world are nearing the midway point in the 12th World Boy Scout Jamboree, at Farragut State Park, Idaho, and two of the three Nevada scouts are from Carson City, Steve Zusman and Bill May.

30 Years Ago

A second drive to establish a town called Lake Tahoe, Nevada by Douglas County residents at the Lake has been started.
