Ciriaco’s single leads Sacramento to 7-6 win over Reno

RENO (AP) — Juan Ciriaco hit a run-scoring single in the ninth inning, leading the Sacramento River Cats to a 7-6 win over the Reno Aces on Tuesday.

The single gave the River Cats a 7-6 lead after Mac Williamson hit a solo home run earlier in the inning.

Reyes Moronta (2-0) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while Erik Davis (8-2) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. Tyler Rogers retired the side in order for his ninth save of the season.

Angel Franco singled three times for the Aces.

The teams continue their series today at 7:05 p.m. at Greater Nevada Field.

Another transfer joins UNR men’s hoops

RENO – University of Nevada head men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman announced Wagner College guard Corey Henson will transfer to Nevada and play his senior season in 2018-19 after sitting out this season under NCAA transfer rules. Henson has signed a scholarship agreement to the play for the Wolf Pack.

“Corey is excited to be here and that was important, he is a great student as well as player,” Musselman said. “Having been a three-year starter and all-conference performer, he will bring a ton of experience and add another dangerous offensive threat to the Wolf Pack.”

The 6-3, 175-pound guard from Upper Marlboro, Md., played the past three seasons for the Seahawks. A two-time second-team Northeast Conference selection, he led Wagner averaging 14.6 points per game this past season as he did his sophomore year when he scored 13.3 points per game. He was seventh in the league in scoring his junior year and eighth as a sophomore. The National Association of Basketball Coaches selected him to their District 18 second team.

Henson averaged 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 33.9 minutes per game his junior season. From the field he shot 41.6 percent and 35.3 percent from behind the arc while shooting 82 percent from the free throw line. He appeared in 29 games and made 27 starts.

His sophomore year he played in 34 contests and started 31 for the Seahawks. Henson averaged three rebounds while dishing out 2.9 assists per game in 30.2 minutes per outing. From the field he connected on 42.8 percent of his attempts and led the NEC making 40.2 percent of his three-point attempts. At the free throw line he was seventh in the conference making 82.1 percent of his attempts. In his first year at Wagner he played in all 30 games and earned 22 starts. He averaged 9.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 27.1 minutes per game. In 13 games he scored in double figures.
