The Carson City school district is kicking of the National Computer Science week with the “Hour of Code” event.

Carson High School kicked off its week by having various school officials join the AP Computer Science class on Friday.

Carson City Superintendent Richard Stokes, state Superintendent Steve Canavero and Carson High Principal Tasha Fuson all joined Ms. Sherri Kelly’s computer science class to learn about coding.

Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science to show everyone can lean the basics of code and to increase participation in the field. The week-long observance is nationally recognized with more than 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide; it’s held in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper.
