Community Sports: Dates scheduled for Nevada basketball luncheons

Nevada basketball coach Eric Musselman has set the dates for the Wolf Pack Timeout luncheons.

The first luncheon is set for Dec. 11 followed by Jan. 10 and Feb. 20. Luncheons will be held at the Silver Legacy starting at 11:30 a.m. The luncheons help support the basketball program. Musselman will talk about past games and preview upcoming opponents.

The cost is $20 for the buffet-style lunch. For information, call 682-6901.

Gymnasts start season

The Silver State Gymnastics Club had their first competition of the season.

At Level 6, Eviana McGowen was first on bars and beam, and third on vault and floor en route to the all-around title. Elle Liebendorfer won vault and was third in all-around scoring. Emily Lewis placed second on both bars and beam, and Eliana Holler was second on beam. The squad finished first as a team in Level 6.

At Level 4, Silver State won the team award thanks mostly to Tabby Thompson, who was second on vault and bars, and third all-around.

In the Xcel Bronze category, Alyssa Mathies was first in vault, bars and floor and second on beam en route to the 6-8 all-around title. Adriana Castillo was first on vault and second on beam en route to the all-around title. Kiera Windsor was first on bars, third on beam and second on vault en route to a third place all-around finish in the 10-year-old category. The 11 and up division title was won by Silver State. Aubrie Chan won the all-around title after wins on the vault, bars and beam. Haley Williams was second on bars while Ali Maschke was second on floor and third on bars.

Dekruyf moves on

Austin Dekruyf was the winner in the 12-13 boys division at the recent Tahoe/Douglas Elks Hoop Shoot.

Dekruyf advances to the state tournament on Jan. 20 in Reno.
