William Glenn, 86, passed away November 27, 2017, at his home in Carson City, Nevada.
Bill was born in Berkley, CA, on July 21, 1931, to William A. Glenn and Mary(Shafer)Glenn. His early years were spent in East Nicolas, CA. He graduated from Yuba City High School and then received his Bachelor’s Degree from UC Berkley as well as his rank and commission from the Army ROTC program.
In June of 1955 he married Helen Clair Howland. From 1955 to 1958 Bill served as an Army officer stationed in Germany. After serving his duty he left the Army and returned to serve his country by joining the Navy. William enjoyed a long and varied naval career. He spent time as a test pilot, flew out of Japan on reconnaissance missions, was deployed to Vietnam for several tours on carriers, and spent years gathering needed data for various offices of the military. He
was stationed in Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Japan, California, Hawaii, and South Korea. Bill retired from the Navy in 1980.
After retirement, William volunteered at several Sheriff’s Departments in California and Nevada. He served as a special investigator and worked private security at events such as the LA Olympics, and also served as Provost Marshall. He enjoyed volunteering at the Carson City Rail Road Museum and for the Republican Party.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and son William Laurance.
He is survived by his wife Helen; daughters Mary(Glenn) Alford and husband Scott Alford from St. James Missouri, Roberta Marie Glenn of Carson City, Nevada, and Ellen Shafer Glenn of Reno, Nevada. He is also survived by grandchildren; Kamron, Kyle, Jalyn, Nicolas and Christina.
