Darrell Moody: Reid fast out of blocks for USD

Corey Reid’s University of South Dakota track career got off to a rousing start.

Reid, who transferred to USD from Azusa-Pacific over the summer, decimated the school record in the heptathlon in his first meet with the team.

Reid scored 5,365 points to best Josh Peterson’s record of 4,724 set in 2015. Reid won the 60-meter dash and finished second in four other events. His two-day total was just 20 points shy of a record he set at Azusa-Pacific.

Reid was named the Summit League Athlete of the Week. Reid is currently third in the nation and top in the Summit League.

By now anybody with a pulse knows LaVar Ball has pulled his son, LiAngelo, out of UCLA.

LiAngelo was one of three UCLA players suspended indefinitely for a shoplifting incident in Hangzhou, China prior to the Bruins’ opener against Georgia Tech. President Donald Trump, according to reports, helped expedite the release of the trio.

The elder Ball obviously figured the suspension would be over by now, and he’s not happy with UCLA. LaVar Ball said he’s looking into overseas options for both LiAngelo and youngest son LaMelo, who was supposed to be a senior at Chino Hills this year. LaMelo was pulled out of high school because his dad didn’t like the new coach the school hired.

LiAngelo, according to people in the know, is the worst of the three brothers. Several college basketball writers have said he wasn’t going to be a starter at UCLA, and he was never an NBA prospect.

According to LaVar Ball, his younger sons LiAngelo and LaMelo have signed with an agent, ensuring neither will play in the college ranks.

Who would really want him and the headache that comes with coaching any of Ball’s kids? Nobody in their right mind.

Things have gotten so annoying the Lakers, Lonzo Ball’s current employer, have instituted somewhat of a gag order at Staples Center.

The team is enforcing a policy that prohibits media to congregate after games in an area that’s usually filled with friends and families of players. Media isn’t allowed to do interviews in that area.

Also, LaVar’s not allowed to do interviews on the court as he did after the Lakers’ season-opening loss to the Clippers. According to NBA regulations, you must have a media credential to be on the floor.

Too bad the Lakers can’t bar him from the arena, son or no son. The guy is a nuisance. And, I think the media talks to him way too much. The guy just likes to hear himself talk, and unfortunately the media eats it up even though most of what he says has no news value.

LaVar, feel free to take your kids, including Lonzo, over to Europe. Nobody will miss you or them.
