Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels is a weekly feature in the Appeal’s Sunday Opinion pages in which the Appeal gives Silver Dollars to those who deserve recognition and occasionally a Wooden Nickel to those who deserve criticism.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales and former Chief of Juvenile Services Ben Bianchi for being appointed to the Juvenile Services Probation Committee.
SILVER DOLLAR: To SlotWorld for donating all the proceeds from sales during 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at its cafe to the Holiday With a Hero program which pairs community leaders with low-income children for a holiday shopping spree.
SILVER DOLLAR: To United Cerebral Palsy of Nevada for expanding its services to Carson City and Gardnerville.
SILVER DOLLAR: To Tasha Martel, a Carson City native and University of Nevada, Reno graduate who’s been named as the new grants manager and community outreach coordinator at Partnership Carson City.
WOODEN NICKEL: To the Kinkead Building, which has been referred to as the worst state government building ever built. But maybe also there should be a Silver Dollar given for the fact the building at press time has virtually all been taken down.
