Santa and his usual suspects will gather for the annual Cookies with Santa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Café at Adele’s, in what has become one of the season’s most anticipated events and part of the fabric of family traditions and community.

Participants are asked to bring one unwrapped gift and adults are asked to give $5 each, all of which will go to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, the organization that distributes Toys for Tots and food to families in need during Christmas.

“Karen, the staff and I love hosting this event each year in part because it allows us an avenue to collect toys on behalf of Ron Wood Family Resource Center and Toys for Tots, as well as to provide a family oriented event in an atmosphere that embodies all that the season is about — giving selflessly, joy and love,” said Charlie Abowd, chef and Adele’s co-owner. “We are fortunate to have Santa and Trent and Lori Dowell here, providing visits and photos with Santa. Without their giving hearts, this would not be possible.”

Cookies, cocoa and cider will be served.

Santa Tom Strekal has cut back on many of his previous Christmas season commitments, but has kept this as one of his must-dos.

“There is no pressure on children, which allows them a relaxed interaction with Santa that is on their time and terms,” he said. “Being able to interact and be fully present to both the children and that the children can approach Santa when they’re ready makes this such an enjoyable day.

“I have my suit ready to go and look forward to the magic that happens that is unique to this day.”

The Dowells will be taking photos as in every year past, with families receiving one photo. Additional photos will be available on the TD Photography Facebook and web site. Two elves and local models, Michelle Hawkins and Kayla Hossli, will be there to assist.

“Cookies with Santa is something that goes beyond being something I want to do, it is something I need to do,” Trent said. “This charges my battery and is a part of me.”

“We look forward to seeing new and old faces, to seeing the children we’ve hosted over the years coming in with their children.”

Cory Dowell will be adding to the merry factor, with his musical talent performing holiday favorites. He might even take song requests.

“It is important to be connected with the true spirit of Christmas, and this day does that,” Charlie said. “Everyone is invited to connect with the child within, while doing for others. The love is palpable.”
