TRACY, Calif. — After two straight impressive wins, Carson High fell a bit short of reaching the finals of the Tracy Tournament on Friday night.

Despite 11 points by Lauren Lemburg, the Senators fell to 7-6 overall with a 54-41 loss to host Tracy. The loss dropped Carson into today’s third-place game at 6:30 p.m.

“They played a physical man-to-man,” Carson coach Melissa Larsen said. “We were physically and mentally tired tonight. We couldn’t make shots.”

Abbey Paulson and Lily Bouza scored eight points apiece, and Bella Kordonowy added six. Abby Golik added five points. Paulson was praised by Larsen for her defensive effort.


BOYS BASKETBALL

Hayward outlasts Carson

LIVERMORE, Calif. — Hayward High knocked off the Senators, 53-43, Friday at the Livermore Tournament.

It was the second consecutive 10-point loss for the Senators.

“Hayward was very athletic,” CHS coach Jordan Glover said. “I thought we played well.”

Trent Robison led Carson with 21 points, Jonny Randall added nine and Derek Barry six. All of Randall’s points came on 3-point field goals.

Carson returns to action today at 10 a.m.


Falcons pull off close win

SPARKS — Sierra Lutheran outscored Quincy 17-6 in the third quarter en route to a 48-47 win at the Rail City Classic.

“It was a rollercoaster of a game,” Sierra Lutheran coach Ben Walther said. “The boys played hard, and I was glad to come out with a win.”

Thomas Mellum and Kyman Berger scored 13 points apiece. Zane Warkentin added nine points and 11 rebounds. Brett Walker contributed seven rebounds and three steals.

The Falcons play McDermitt today at 3:30 p.m.


WRESTLING

Carson wrestlers lose consolation matches

RENO — Both Bryce Newhall (170) and Jesse Case (182) lost their morning consolation matches at the Sierra Nevada Classic on Friday morning.

Case lost 6-2 to K-Ci Slade of Spring Creek. Slade led 4-0 until Case scored two points in the final period. Case finished the tournament with a 4-2 record.

Newhall was pinned by Joaquin Wanner of Lovelock. He had fallen behind 7-0 before the fall. Newhall finished with a 3-2 record for the tournament.
