Dayton’s Santos, Ply honored

Dayton High coach Jason Santos was named 3A Coach of the Year and J.J. Ply received first-team honors in boys basketball.

The awards were announced at the recent team banquet.

Santos guided the Dust Devils to a 7-16 overall record (6-10 in league), and the Dust Devils reached the playoffs for the first since the 2011-12 season.

Ply led the 3A in free throws (140) and double-doubles (11). He averaged 18.8 a game.

Trevor Burrows and Chase Peterson were honorable mention picks. Burrows averaged 11.4 a game and 4.6 rebounds a contest. Peterson averaged 4.8 assists per game. Peterson and Burrows also received all-state academic honors.
