Dec. 11, 1933 ~ Feb. 21, 2017

Surrounded by his family in his last moments, Jack passed after a brief struggle in the hospital with his recent heart surgery, but a life long struggle to breath with his asthma and COPD.

Jack was born and raised in Alameda, CA. Faithful and active, he grew up in Immanuel Lutheran church in Alameda. He worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Oakland, CA., then Tracy, CA., and back to Oakland. He moved with the company to Southern California, to work at the Libbey Glass division factory in the City of Industry from 1967 to his retirement in 1988. Once retired, he moved to Fallon, NV for the clean air and small community life.

Jack married Georgine in 1957 after finishing his machinist apprenticeship in 1956 at Owens-Illinois. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at UC Berkely in 1962. Together they toured the US by car for 5 weeks in 1960, and years later with sons John (b. 1961), Mark (b. 1963), and David (b. 1970), toured them again over a 6 week span and covering 11,000 miles. The travel/car/explore bug had been passed on. Jack’s love of camping and hiking and just plain exploring was infectious.

Jack is survived by his wife, Georgine (Bruck), sons John (Martha, grandsons Aaron and Andrew), Mark (Dorothy, grandsons Anthony and Mark), and David (Paula, granddaughter Kaitlyn), and extended family.

From early on his love of family was clear, with his relationship to his nephew Tom, who saw him not only as an uncle, but like a father and even brother, and to his niece, Sally who also regarded him like a father. That love of family was never an exclusive club, as so many friends and church members found throughout his many years of service to his Lord and church.
