Galen Lee Bunch, 63, died Monday after a long battle from the effects of a brain tumor. He accepted his fate with inner strength and grace and never complained. He was a real testament to us all. He is now home with his Lord and Savior whom he loved.
Galen was born and raised in Nevada and graduated from Carson High School in 1972. He worked for Safeway Stores from 1971 - 1983 as produce manager. He later went on to flight aeronautics school at Colorado Aerotech in Denver, CO., and graduated in 1988 the top of his class, receiving his diploma from a well-known astronaut. Galen was offered positions from many airlines and finally accepted one from United Airlines, based in Oakland, CA, because it was the closest to home. He became one of their head mechanics and was on the crew that tested new planes in flight. He retired in 2006 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Galen shared a love of working on cars with his brother Chet and they attended many car races together. Galen was a gentle soul and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his nephew Ryan E. Bunch; father Jesse M. Bunch; Grandmother Ida C. Beach; Uncle Edsel Beach and mother Velma L. Bunch.
Among his survivors are his daughter Crystal Powers (Charlie) and Chelsea Bunch; son Dillon Bunch; brothers Chester E. Bunch; Jon L. Bunch and Clinton M. Bunch; sister Merlene R. Alt; Aunt Mary I.R. McMahon; 4 grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A special “thank you” to Mountain View on Koontz Lane here in Carson City for taking such good care of Galen while his stay there in his final years. Also a special “thank you” to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center who gave him comfort care in the last few days of his life.
Funeral arrangements are with FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Carson City and intermentment at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden
