Community sports: Carson City rec basketball registration open

Registration is open for the 2017 Carson City Recreation High School Basketball League.

Register online at www.carson.org/ccpr or in person at the MAC Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Registration closes Feb. 12. Cost is $60 per participant which includes six practices and 10 games. Uniforms are required. You may use one from a previous year. If you need to purchase a uniform you may do so at time of registration for an additional $25. Draft dates are scheduled for Feb. 17 for boys and Feb. 18 for girls with team practices beginning March 1. CCRD will be hosting a mandatory coaches, players, and parents meeting on Feb. 21 at the Carson City Community Center Theater. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and all families should plan on approximately one hour.

MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Eagle Valley takes 2nd

Eagle Valley Middle School’s seventh-grade volleyball squad finished second to Pa Wa Lu at the recent South Tahoe Optimist Volleyball Tournament.

Pa Wa Lu won the championship match 25-11, 23-25 and 15-11.

Caydee Farnworth had nine service points, three digs and a kill, Lilly Ralla had six kills and two digs and Olivia Smith added eight service points, four kills and eight assists in the championship match.

In a 25-7 and 25-10 win over Virginia City, Smith led the way with 13 service points, including five aces, and eight assists. Diana Pierott added five aces and a kill, and Ralla added six kills. In a sweep of Carson Middle, Lizbeth Vega had 11 service points, including six aces, Smith had 13 assists, three kills and an ace, Farnworth contributed eight kills and four digs and Haylee Busby added five aces.

Against Alder Creek (25-12, 25-15 win), Ralla had five kills and five aces, Smith added five assists and two aces, and Vega added three aces. Eagle swept Carson Valley, as Smith had nine assists, Farnworth had six kills and three digs, and Emma Stagliano contributed four assists and two aces.

In a league win over Carson Middle, Smith had four assists, Farnworth had two kills and two digs, and Ralla served up nine aces and handed out four assists.

EV 8th graders finish second

Eagle Valley’s eighth-grade volleyball squad went 5-2 and finished second at the recent South Tahoe Optimist Volleyball Tournament.

EV topped Pau Wa Lu 26-24 and 25-12 in the semifinal match thanks to seven kills from Kedre Luschar, six kills and three aces by Lauren Hawkins and 24 assists from Abby Lemburg.

In the championship match, Carson Valley won 25-14 and 25-23. Janice Perez-Galvan and Abby Golik led the hitters with four kills apiece, and Raymie Brooks added two kills and three digs.

Eagle knocked off Incline 25-16 and 25-17 in elimination play. Lemburg had 16 assists and four aces, Madison Rabideau added five kills and Cady Garrett served up three aces.

The locals opened the tournament with a straight-set loss to Carson Valley. Lemburg led the way with three digs, two kills and 11 assists, Luschar had two kills and five digs, and Golik added two kills and four digs. Eagle Valley knocked off Virginia City in the second match, 25-17, 25-13. Rabideau led the way with six aces and four kills, Lemburg finished with six aces, two kills and 12 assists, and Luschar added two kills and two digs.

In a narrow 25-22 and 25-23 sweep of Carson Middle, Lemburg led the way with 17 assists and three kills, Rabideau added five kills, three digs and two aces, and Hawkins contributed three aces, two kills and a dig. Eagle Valley topped Incline in three games in its final pool play contest. Lemburg had 14 assists and nine aces, Rabideau chipped in five kills and Luschar had four kills, two aces and two digs.
