Carson City all-stars teams registered a split in Saturday’s District 1 action.

The 11-year-old team, making its tournament debut, blew an early 5-0 lead and lost 18-7 to Reno Continental. The 10-year-old squad kept its title hopes alive with a 7-2 victory over South Tahoe.

All three Carson teams will be in action Sunday.

The 12-year-old stars play at 10 a.m. on Field 2, the 11s play at 4 p.m. on Field 4 and the 10s play at 10 a.m. on Field 3.

The format is double-elimination with a consolation bracket.

The day started great for the 11-year-old squad, but ended badly.

A two-run single by Thomas Young and a three-run homer by Isaac Felix staked Carson starter Justin McCraw & Co. to a quick 5-0 lead after two innings. However, the offense generated just two more runs and three hits the rest of the way, and that output was nowhere near enough to stay with Reno Continental.

After Carson’s five-run inning, RC erupted for seven runs, sending 11 to the plate in the top of the third.

Carson didn’t help itself, making four errors and dropping a third strike to start the inning. Sam Janosik had a key two-run double and Dom Damon contributed a run-scoring single. The remaining four runs scored on a wild pitch and two errors.

Reno Continental added two more in the fourth to make it 9-5 on a single by Dom Zaccheo, a two-out error and single by Owen Burris.

The winners upped their lead to 15-5 with six more in the fifth thanks to a two-run homer by Ben Scolari, a two-run single by Mike Deitz, a wild pitch and a run-scoring single by Quinn Obert.

Carson avoided a mercy rule loss with one in the bottom of the fifth on a run-scoring groundout by Austin Garcia.

The Continental stars added insult to injury by three in the top of the sixth on a homer by Deitz.

Carson tacked on a meaningless run in the bottom of the sixth when Yaki Glenn walked and scored on a two-out error.

Tristan Hawkins had two hits for the Carson stars. Zaccheo and Hunter Garrett had three each for RC.

The 10-year-old stars snapped a 1-all tie with three runs in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to outlast South Tahoe.

Nick Heald, Tavin Miller and Ben Morrison all had two hits in the winning effort.

Tyler LaFollette threw the first four innings to pick up the victory. He threw an economical 62 pitches before leaving the contest.
