Carson City all-star teams still alive

All three Carson City Little League all-star teams remained alive in the consolation bracket of the District 1 tournament Thursday night at Governors Field.

The Carson 12s knocked off Centennial, 12-6; the 11-year-olds throttled South Tahoe, 13-6; and the 10s edged Reno National, 7-6.

All three teams will be back in action today at 6 in their respective quests for third place. All three already have two losses.

The 12-year-olds used long balls by Quentin Beck and Pedro Oropeza, and Oropeza’s stellar four-inning relief effort to knock off Centennial for the second time in the tournament.

Beck’s three-run shot in the second and a run-scoring single by Cooper Eaton gave Carson a quick 4-0 lead, but Centennial bounced back with five of its own thanks to a two-run double by Matt Martin and run-scoring hits by Koufax Cranmer and Trevor Martin plus a run-scoring groundout by Logan Franklin.

Centennial padded its lead with a single run in the third off Oropeza, but the strong right-hander allowed just three hits the rest of the way.

Carson took the lead for good, 10-6, with a six-run explosion in the fourth.

With one out, Daniel Fitch singled and was forced at second by Caleb Morgan. Cooper Eaton singled Morgan to third, and DeCarlo Quintana followed with a run-scoring single to make it 6-5. Cameron Boeckman tied the game at 6 with a single. Kai Miller walked and Oropeza delivered what proved to be a game-winning grand slam to make it 10-6.

Oropeza added a run-scoring single in the sixth, and a wild pitch accounted for the game’s final run.

Carson unloaded 15 hits. Eaton led the barrage with three, and Boeckman, Aden McNabb, Beck and Oropeza added two each,

The Carson 10s reached Thursday’s game by routing Carson Valley, 18-5, and then fought off a late comeback by Reno National.

In the win over Carson Valley, Jesse Freeman led the offense with two hits and three RBI. Tavin Miller, Drake Hardcastle and Ryder Kiel all contributed two hits.

Tyler LaFollette struck out six in two innings of work. Miller, Ben Morrison and Hardcastle all pitched for Carson.

Against Reno, Carson struck for two in the first and three in the second for a 5-0 lead. Reno National cut the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the fourth, but Carson came back with two of its own for a 7-2 lead. Reno tallied one in the fifth and then three in the sixth before Carson got the final out of the game.

Miller threw four innings, allowing two runs and three hits, and striking out three.

Miller and Demarcus Brewster had two hits apiece in the victory, and Radley Felix, Hardcastle and LaFollette added one each.

The 11s scored in every inning en route to their win over South Tahoe.

Carson scored three in its first at-bat thanks to a double by Thomas Young, a triple by Yaki Glenn and singles by Cameron Boeckman and Keagan Ferris.

South Tahoe retaliated with four thanks to three walks, a double by Forrest Jones and singles by Ian Ross and Jorge Herrera-Uribe.

Carson went ahead 5-4 thanks to a run-scoring triple by Tristan Hawkins and a passed ball, but South Tahoe used a single by Jones, a throwing error, two walks, a single by Haden Stephen plus Colin Wildman’s run-scoring infied out to re-take the lead, 6-5, after two innings.

Carson scored three in each of the next two innings to go ahead 11-6 after four.

Young and Hawkins had the key hits in the third, while three walks, two errors and Young’s infield single led to the three runs in the fourth.

Carson closed it out with a run in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Young led the offense with four hits, and Glenn contributed three.

Glenn and Isaac Felix closed out the game on the mound for the locals.
