Carson City all-star teams eliminated

And then there were none.

All three Carson City Little League all-star teams were eliminated at the District 1 tournament at Governors Field on Friday.

The Carson 12s, despite getting off to a 3-0 lead in the first, dropped a 10-5 decision to Reno National. The 11s staged a late-game rally but lost 9-7 when the Reno American center fielder took away an extra-base hit to end the game. The 10s were knocked off by Washoe, 10-4.

Carson 12s started fast, scoring three times in the first against Reno National.

Cooper Eaton hit a one-out double and Kai Miller walked. Cameron Boeckman followed with a three-run homer.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as Reno National scored four times off starter/loser Daniel Fitch.

After getting the first out, Fitch walked two straight, hit the next batter and issued a bases-loaded walk to Hayden Parga. Jackson Sellers and Jackson Shoolroy followed with run-scoring singles, tying the game at 3. Lukus Porter hit a sacrifice fly to right, driving in the go-ahead run.

Carson tied the game at 4 in the top of the third when Eaton reached on a catcher’s interference call. Miller walked, and both runners moved up on Boeckman’s infield out. Quentin Beck followed with a single to right-center field.

Reno National scored four more in the third to take an 8-4 advantage. The big blow was a two-run homer by Parza.

In the fourth, Eaton delivered his second double of the game, driving home Trevin George, who had walked, to make it 8-5.

Reno tacked on one in the fourth and one in the fifth. Carson had just one baserunner in the last two innings.

Reno American grabbed an early 4-0 lead, but Carson cut it to 4-2 on a two-run homer by Tristan Hawkins, who finished with three hits and three RBI.

The Reno squad put up five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-2 lead.

Carson fought back with five runs in the fifth on two hits and three walks, cutting the deficit to 9-7. Carson had runners at second and third when Reno made a great defensive play to end the game.

Austin Garcia complemented Hawkins’ effort with two hits. Colin Boeckman and Robert Berger added a hit apiece.

Carson trailed just 3-2 after four, but Washoe put the game away with five runs in the fifth thanks to four hits, and the locals never recovered.

Demarcus Brewster, Drake Hardcastle, Jesse Freeman, Nick Heald and Radley Felix all hit safely for Carson.

Games will continue today and Sunday in all three Little League divisions.
