The evening entertainment is set and off-site parking with shuttle buses arranged, but the Carson City Fair still lacks Sunday transportation and volunteers.
The fair in Fuji Park starts in two weeks and hundreds of hours of volunteer time needs to be filled.
“We need every position filled, from 7:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. in three-hour shifts,” said Lindsay Chichester, extension educator, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, who spearheaded this year’s event. “From helping with the youth livestock and dog shows to static exhibit check-in and helping the judges. We’ll have a fair office, answering general questions, selling T-shirts.”
Each volunteer will receive a commemorative T-shirt, said Chichester.
The schedule includes static exhibit set-up and dog shows July 24 and static show judging and dog shows July 25.
The fair starts July 26 with an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. emceed by John Tyson, and featuring Archie, the Reno Aces mascot and Mayor Bob Crowell and Carson City supervisors riding in an antique manure spreader. The carnival and vendor booths, provided by Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, starts at 6 p.m.
The livestock program is July 27-29.
Other activities include antique tractor parade, tractor pulls, swap meets, silent auction and raffles provided by the Northern Nevada Antique Power Club, and the evening entertainment July 28-29.
The Bulls, Broncs & Barrels rodeo featuring bronc riding and barrel racing starts at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the Carson City Fairgrounds arena, with gates opening at 5:30.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $14 at the door and children 7 years old and younger are admitted for free. Tickets are available at Benson’s Feed, Bodines Casino, J&T Basque Bar and Dining Room, and the Carson City Visitors Bureau.
The parking challenge for organizers has been nearly resolved. Parking will be available in the Walmart parking lot on Topsy Lane and Carson City is providing two Jump Around Carson buses to shuttle people to and from Fuji Park.
Except on Sunday, when Chichester hopes to lease some large buses if donations come in to cover it. She said in-kind donations providing buses or vans are welcome, too.
Businesses’ in-kind donations have been a big help, said Chichester, and include lodging for judges and gift certificates for golf and meals for the silent auction.
