The circus: Lee and Ryland’s grand exhibition of circus men and women and trained animals will take place tonight. The riding, tumbling, feats of daring and the performance of the buffalo and Indian rider are said to be excellent.

Shaw’s Springs: If anybody wants to be steamed or even thoroughly cooked, he can be accommodated at Shaw’s Springs. They have struck a stream of water there that the colonel says is “hotter than 17 hells.” It is a fine chance for sinners to toughen up for what’s coming.

110 Years Ago

Lake Tahoe: Because of the rise in the water of Lake Tahoe valuable property on the shores is being destroyed. The new retaining dam the government placed at the northern end of the lake to control the waters for the Truckee-Carson irrigation project is to blame. No relief has been given and unless it is remedied the people will take the matter into their own hands — with the aid of a few explosives.

Recreation department pet show: A special events series sponsored by the Carson City-Ormsby County Recreation Department that includes youngsters and pets, except horses, will take place at Mills Park. Winners will receive ribbons for first and second place. Dogs — smallest, largest, best-cared for, most tricks, most obedient and oldest. Cats — smallest, largest, best groomed, oldest and prettiest. Fish — brightest colored, most unusual, smallest and largest. Other pets include birds, rodents, and reptiles.

Eagle rodeo: The 1997 edition of the Golden Eagle Rodeo Company is coming for the Carson City Rodeo. The event is coming to Fuji Park with athletes from Utah, Wyoming and California — Events include steer wrestlers Matt Lawless and Earl Hintz of Carson City. Michael Johnson will compete in bull riding along with Jess Eary in saddle bronco riding and Karen Walton in barrel racing.
