Stampede of Pioneer Coach Stage Horses: “Fatty” Hill Ostler for the company was adjusting some baggage and lost his balance, and, falling off the dasher, precipitated down between the wheel horses. This sudden falling startled the six horses and the whole team went off toward Genoa at a break neck speed. Miss Lizzie Ballard of Virginia City was seated in the back of the coach and calmly awaited the result of her terrible ride (continued Saturday).

Warren Noteware: A well known Carsonite is a queer fish, according to his own confession. He has never visited the Comstock, even though he was employed by the Virginia and Truckee Railroad for six years. He reminds one of the old woman who lived on Cape Cod for 60 years and never saw a fish.

Sea Serpent Seen: A report from Walker Lake states that a monster sea serpent has been seen at the northern end of the lake. Both Dan Cornelison and John McCorry sighted the reptile while fishing from a boat half mile from the northern shore. The monster was making its way toward the east shore on the lake. It appears to be about 30 feet in length and six feet across the back.

German agents charged with conspiracy: Three German agents are charged with conspiracy to scatter a deadly infective disease using court plaster as a medium. The plaster was distributed in Kansas towns and villages. Tests proven by three expert chemists found lockjaw germs. Names of men arrested are being withheld as lynching is feared.

50 Years Ago

Carson College: The college in operation for one year has shut down but will retain its license to operate in case the college reopens in the fall with evening classes. The college began the process of filing for bankruptcy because of a $169,000 debt.
