The Popcorn Stand: I still want stuff that works

Time for my latest stuff that works rant. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, all this technology we have would be great — if it actually worked.

Maybe I’m just looking at my youth through rose-colored glasses, but it seemed like everything in “the good old” days worked a lot better than the technology of today works now. Sure, we only had a few channels on the television set and no remote control so whatever was on the TV had to be so bad that you actually had to get up to change the channel. Now, I go into panic mode when I can’t find the remote. Even worse is when I have to walk a few feet back to the chair when I forgot to take the remote with me when I went to lie down on the couch.

But I digress. Sure, the vertical hold had to be fixed. But it could be fixed. You just turned the knob and it was fixed. At least that’s the way I remember it.

I guess what I’m trying to say is it didn’t take nearly as much time and effort to fix things that were a lot simpler in “my day” as it does now. You can’t just fix anything anymore. You have to call somebody, send a help ticket or practically contact NASA to get anything done.

Break your smart phone. Be ready to go days if not weeks without one. Same with your TV. And heaven forbid you press just one wrong button. You press one wrong button, you should be able to press one button to make it right. But for some reason it doesn’t work that way. Ten buttons is more like it.
