Who are we?

Look for the good. Be prejudiced toward your partner or your friend or your government. These attitudes made our country a place of hope and prosperity.

Instead, fear and hate, taught by much talk radio, has led many in our country to develop deep feelings of alienation. This alienation causes distrust and encourages destroying the system.

As David Brooks says, “To be ‘woke’ in the alienated culture is to embrace the most cynical interpretation of every situation, to assume bad intent in every actor.” What a sad and destructive way to live.

If we change our TV/radio/internet behavior, and change our attitude, we just might change the future of our country.

School vouchers bill is unfair

It makes no sense that Gov. Sandoval would consider vetoing any or all Democrat-sponsored legislation just because he wants his school voucher bill, Senate Bill 506, to pass and reach his desk so he can sign it into law.

His bill, also known as “school choice,” or “education savings accounts” or “vouchers/subsidies,” would subsidize predominantly wealthy parents who want to send their kids to parochial or other private schools. Where will the money come from?

The governor has set aside $60 million for these subsidies and this is our tax money! It’s public money that will support private schools! This is certainly not fair to taxpayers of all incomes, but especially to low-income taxpayers who pay Nevada’s regressive taxes.

Low-income families wouldn’t be able to afford private schools even with a $5,000-plus subsidy. If $60 million is the magic number, it should go to public schools for children of all income levels. Senate Bill 506 is not fair.

Honesty in politics

In Hillary’s commencement speech at Wellesley she spoke of the Watergate investigation, Richard Nixon, and his “impeachment.”

Hillary was a staff attorney for the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate investigation so she should certainly be aware that Nixon was not impeached as he resigned.

Because of her alleged actions during the investigation, Jerry Zeifman, a Democrat and chief counsel of the House Judiciary Committee at that time, said, “She was a liar. She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”

With such an endorsement, it is reasonable to think it might be difficult to obtain a position with a respectable firm in the Washington, D.C., area, and Hillary, having failed the bar exam, ended up in Arkansas with Bill.

Incidentally, when Bill was President he was faced with impeachment.

I don’t know if her error was intentional or a matter of lack of recall, but in her speech she spoke of honesty and people in power inventing their own facts. How much honesty was involved in Bosnia, leaving the White House, Benghazi and the case of her private server?

I feel most citizens believe honesty has always been, and will always be, a major factor in elections.

I also feel Hillary has become a liability, not an asset, to the Democratic Party.

Visitors weigh in on Gov. Sandoval’s integrity

Dear Nevada,

Yesterday my wife and I were on our way home to Alabama from enjoying a fantastic trip to Stateline and Lake Tahoe … what a beautiful place.

When we boarded our flight on Southwest to Las Vegas at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, we found out your governor was also on the flight. Someone pointed him out or we wouldn’t have known.

He didn’t have any priority boarding, special treatment or any fanfare, he just got on the plane like everyone else.

As a resident of Alabama who just had our governor resign under scandal and seeing so much waste at the state level, I felt compelled to inform the citizens of Nevada that your governor was not only working on the holiday but was flying commercial just like everyone else. The only thing he had with him was a binder labeled “State of Nevada.” He didn’t even take any overhead bin space.

As a Democrat in a red state, I thought it was pretty cool that he wasn’t wasting taxpayer dollars to fly private and thought the people of Nevada should know.

President Trump leading country through dark times

After four months of President Donald Trump, a few things are now clear.

Barack Obama was quite possibly the most treacherous president this country has ever suffered through. Hillary and Bill Clinton’s greed and quest for power is nauseating. Harry Reid was corrupt.

Media, whether it’s print, television, radio or online, no longer even pretends to be non-biased. Public education, K-Grad school, is a liberal brain washing machine. Hollywood is ... well, that doesn’t even dignify an opinion.

Our country is truly splitting into two camps. On one side you have self-reliance, tolerance, compassion, faith, integrity, charity and work ethic. On the other side you have greed, globalism, fake news, false science, corruption, racism, sexism, ageism and hedonism.

President Trump, so far, has done a great job combating the dark resistance. Time will tell where this world will go, but men like Donald Trump are few and far between.

President Trump, and America, have a unique opportunity to recapture the roots of American exceptionalism. We can shed the burdens of liberal violence and intolerance. Stand up for what’s right, what’s good, and what’s needed now.

Thank God Donald J. Trump won the election handily. It is unimaginable how deeply our country would have sunk into the abyss if Clinton had won. MAGA.
