Carson City All-Stars top Centennial at tourney

Carson City’s 12-year-old all-star team exploded for seven first-inning runs en route to an easy 11-1 win over Centennial in the opening round of District 1 play Wednesday night at Governors Field.

The game was called on the 10-run rule after Cooper Eaton’s two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth.

The victory moves Carson to a winners bracket game Sunday at 10 a.m. on Field 2. Its opponent won’t be decided until Friday night.

“A very good start,” Carson manager Damien Boeckman said after the game. “The kids had a great attitude tonight, and they have really come together.”

And, Boeckman was overjoyed when his team put up a big number right off the bat. He wouldn’t have expected that in a hundred years.

Aden McNabb had a two-run double and Quentin Beck had a two-run single to lead the barrage and Daniel Fitch and Cameron Boeckman also had run-scoring hits.

Starting pitcher Cameron Boeckman gave up an unearned run in the second when Koufax Cranmer came through with a two-out hit.

The younger Boeckman would allow just one other hit, a one-out, third-inning triple to Matthew Martin. The hit went for naught when Carson City’s Caleb Morgan turned an inning-ending double play.

Boeckman fanned four batters and walked one in four innings of work.

“I’m super proud of him,” Damien Boeckman said, “He was very economical (55 pitches). We had great catching and great defense tonight.”

Carson struck for three more runs in the third on a double by Beck and infield singles by Morgan, Eaton and Boeckman plus a wild pitch.

The locals needed just one in the fourth, and singles by Fitch, an error on Beck’s flyball and Eaton’s single produced the game-winning run.

Eaton, Boeckman, Beck and Fitch all had two hits.

CARSON VALLEY 14, SOUTH TAHOE 4

Danaus Budden slugged a two-run homer in the fifth inning and added a bases-clearing triple in the sixth to help Carson Valley pull away to a 14-4 opening round district win against South Tahoe on Wednesday afternoon.

Carson Valley held a 6-3 lead going to the top of the fifth before Chase Olsen doubled into the right-center field gap and then Budden hit an 0-1 pitch over the center field fence. In the sixth, Budden hit a bases loaded triple into the right field corner to highlight a six-run rally. He finished the game 3-for-3 with five RBI, while Kaden McIver went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Budden, a left-hander, also started on the mound and pitched three innings of six-hit ball to pick up the win.
