The Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation is hosting an Open House and demonstration of disc golf at the historic Wungnema House located in Mills Park, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Eagle Valley Disc Golf Association has been working with FCCPR and the Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department on the development of a disc golf complex on 100 acres west of Flint Drive and Rifle Range Road. This complex will have two tournament disc golf courses and a beginner course.
FCCPR assists the Parks Department with projects for improvements to the city’s parks. Currently it’s providing financial guidance and assistance to several organizations that are raising funds to make parks improvements, such as EVDGA.
Access to the house and the disc golf demonstration is from the Seely Loop, the east entrance for Mills Park, off North Saliman Road.
FCCPR also will be holding a Community Service Awards ceremony on July 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the wall of honor at the east end of the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park. Those honored this year are Robyn Orloff (Volunteer of the Year), Chris MacKenzie (Volunteer of the Years), Muscle Powered (Organization of the Year), and CarsonNow.org (Business of the Year). This brief outdoor ceremony will be followed by an Open House at the Wungnema House.
FCCPR welcomes new members and is interested in individuals who can assist with fundraising, newsletter, publicity, special events, recruitment, and park clean up. Annual membership is $25. For further information, call David Bugli at 775-883-4154 or visit the website http://CarsonCityParks.org.
