The Popcorn Stand: When it’s more than a feeling

The old fuddy, duddy’s in love. I’m sure many of you who choose to read this Popcorn Stand are saying stick to the other crap, er, stuff, you write, but you’ll just have to put up with my mushy gushing in this column.

It took 51-plus years for this guy to find the love of my life in Esther and it was worth the wait. And we even have our own song and not like in the “Seinfeld” episode in which Elaine’s boyfriend has his “own” song, “Desperado,” and no matter what she tries to do, she can’t remove her boyfriend from her trance while he listens to the song. In a futile event, Elaine tries to make “Witchy Woman” their song, but to no avail.

I have to admit, though, when “More Than a Feeling” comes on the SiriusXM 1970s channel, I turn up the volume, totally ignoring my sweetheart for a moment, and she just goes with the flow. Listening to the Sirius XM 70s channel, including classic “American Top 40” programs from the 1970s, is just one of the many things we have in common.

No our song is Chicago’s “You’re the Inspiration,” an appropriate choice since Chicago is a favorite group of both of us.

Sounding like Yogi Berra I know how lucky I am, but not because I know how lucky I am. I know how lucky I am because all my friends tell me how lucky I am.

My sweetheart and I have known each other for almost seven years and we worked with each other for almost four of those years. It took me a while to figure out what a wonderful woman she is. Actually, it only took me about a week to figure out she’s a wonderful woman. It took me more than six years to figure out I needed this wonderful woman in my life. Did I mention patience is another one of her virtues?

We’re still relatively new in our relationship, but every day gets better.

When I’m with Esther, the old, fuddy, duddy doesn’t feel that old. Just loved. And I love her.
