Prep Roundup: Carson High baseball splits pair

RENO — The Carson High baseball team ran its winning streak to four games before sustaining its first loss of the season at the Mike Bearman Tournament on Saturday in Reno.

Carson powered past Damonte Ranch 12-6 before its comeback fell short in an 8-6 loss to Enterprise.

Trevor Edis singled in each of the first two innings to get Carson’s offense going against Damonte as the Senators had 11 hits. Carson scored four runs in the first innings and two in the second to take a 6-1 lead. Carson scored five runs in the sixth to take a 12-5 lead. Landon Truesdale singled and Abel Carter doubled during the rally.

Bryce Moyle continued his hot hitting as he, Carter, Truesdale and Edis each had multiple hit games. Truesdale and Carter each had three hits for Carson.

Carson trailed 7-1 after three innings against Enterprise, but scored four runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-5. The fourth inning rally was highlight by Jace Keeman’s triple, and singles by Kahle Good and Truesdale.

Jared Barnard, Good, Truesdale, and Keema each drove in one run for Carson.

Dayton wins twice

YERINGTON – The Dust Devils improved to 3-0-1 on the season with an 18-1 win over Hawthorne and a 15-0 win over Bishop at the Yerington Tournament.

The win over Mineral County was just a three-inning affair because of the new NIAA 15-run rule.

Nick Hein worked the first two innings, and Avery Nelson finished up.

Trevor Burrows went 2-for-4 with two RBI, C.J. Willhite had a double and three RBI, and Zach Woitas and Jesse Schmidt drove in two runs apiece.

In the win over Bishop, Dylan Baker tossed a 3-hit shutout.

Burrows went 3-for-4 with four RBI, Hein had two hits and three RBI, Woitas added two hits as did Cole Purdy, and Jesse and Justin Schmidt added a hit and RBI each.

Dayton opens 3A play Friday at 3 p.m. at Elko.

CHS JV rolls

Carson rolled to a 10-1 win over Fernley. Garritt Benavidez had three hits and Ryan Wright added two hits for Carson. Winning pitcher Gryphon Matthies struck out six over four innings.

SOFTBALL

Carson drops two

Carson fell 10-2 to Pleasant Grove and 15-3 against Rodriguez at the Del Campo Tournament. Against Pleasant Grove, Taryn Earle went 2-for-2 and Kailee Luschar, Jailene Salcido and Lauren Lemburg each added a hit.

The Senators couldn’t fully take advantage of 11 hits against Rodriguez.

Bella Kordonowy and Jailene Salceido each collected multiple hits for Carson. Camiell Simpson and Salceido each drove in one run for the Senators.

Dayton 1-4

Dayton went 1-4 at the Yerington Tournament over the weekend. The Dust Devils beat Truckee 7-1.

Amanda Woitas was the winning pitcher, allowing just one run on one hit. Woitas also walked three times and score twice offensively.

Marissa Hein went 1-for-2 with an RBI, Julianna Rogacs went 1-for-3 with two RBI, Tamia Powell scored a run, Sydney Anderson went 1-for-3 with a run and Shaye Thompson went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Dust Devils.

Dayton sustained two close loses to Yerington, 12-8 and 8-7. In the 12-8 loss, Caleigh Onstoll went 2-for-3 with a run, Aleea Howe went 2-for-3 wth a home run, double, two runs and three RBI, Anderson went 1-for-3 with a run, Elizabeth Vincent doubled with a run and an RBI, Tamia Powell went 2-for-3 with a run and Briana Hill and Marissa Hein each added a hit for Dayton.

In the 8-7 loss, Woitas went 2-for-3 with a run, Onstott ws 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs and two RBI and Vincent, Rogacs, Powell and Thompson all added a hit.

Dayton also lost to Bishop and lost to Wells 14-5. Against Wells, Woitas was 1-for-3 with a run, Howe went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, Rogacs went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI, Anderson went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

“The girls played well, we were able to play different line ups each game to get a better idea of what the girls can do,” Dayton coach Dusti Houk said. “Very happy with our performance and looking forward to seeing this group of girls bond together and become a much better team. Aleea Howe had a big weekend, and played many different defensive positions. I was pleased with how the pitchers pitched.”

TRACK

Meyer double winner

Valerie Sue Meyer won the 200 (27.24) and the 400 (61.0) to lead Carson at its season-opening track meet on Saturday.

No team scores were available at press time. The meet was originally scheduled at Manogue, but moved to Damonte Ranch.

Freshman Annika Wick ran a 13:08 in the 3200 to finish third, while Dylan Mayo recorded a 40-2 in the triple jump and was second in the long jump at 19-11 1/2. Darryl Heyward was third in the 400 (54.0) and Johnny Barahona was fourth (54.8).

Harry Meyer was second in the 120 high hurdles in 16.25.

Dayton teams third at Fallon

Jonathan Ply won three events Saturday during the three-team Fallon Conference Meet.

Ply won the 1600 meters in a time of 4:54.36. He won the 800 meter run by 13 seconds in a time of 2:10.60 and won the high jump with a jump of 6-feet 4-inches.

Fernley won the boys meet with 84 points, Fallon finished with 71 and Dayton was third with 31 points.

On the girls side, Fallon won with 83 points. Fernley was second with 70 and Dayton finished with 30 points.

Rebecca Mason won two events for the girls. Mason won the 400 meters with a time of 1:08.01 and the high jump with a jump of 5-feet.
