Corey Reid from Azusa Pacific finished second at the recent Division II Indoor Heptathlon Championships.

Reid collected more than 5,300 points in the two-day event.

Reid, a Carson High grad, won the pole vault (15-11) and 1000 meters (2:41.16), finished third in the 60 hurdles (8.34), took fifth in the 650-meter-dash (7.14) and was sixth in the high jump at 6-4. His worst events were the long jump (20-2 1/2) and shot put (37-1). He was 14th in each of those events.

EV wrestlers shine

Four Eagle Valley wrestlers won championships March 11 at the TahNeva qualifier.

The top four in each weight group advance to the championships in Lovelock on March 18.

Zach Remer (6-7th, 85 pounds), Denton Fitzpatrick (6-7th, 115), Kory Grist (8th, 130) and Connor Lampert (8th,150) all won individual titles.

Mackenzie Tackett (6-7th, 120), Garrett Wilson (2nd, 130) and Alexander Robison (8th, 160) all fiished second. Clint Dewitt (6-7th, 100), P.J. Osorio (7th,heavyweight), Jacob Runge (8th, 135) and Anthony Alvarado (8th, 150) all finished third.

Eagle Valley women’s

group starts April 12

The Eagle Valley Women’s Golf Club is the only Carson City group offering play on two 18-hole courses.

Beginning April 12, members may choose to play Wednesday mornings and/or Thursday late afternoons.

Umpire clinic

in Sun Valley

A baseball umpires clinic is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. at Gepford Park, home of Sun Valley Cal Ripken baseball.

The park is located at 305 E. Gepford Parkway,

The clinic will be covering first base mechanics such as reading the ball, coming into pivot on a base hit and taking the runner into second.

There will be another station from inside the diamond about how to work the “B” position and get in the best view for the pick-off at first and the steal at second, how to cover the double play from the “B” and “C” positions.

There will be another station about how to work behind the plate and properly clear the catcher, head height and ball tracking and many more things that were not taught at the high school umpires clinic.

Attending the clinic will also qualify you to work Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken baseball and qualify you for state and regional tournaments.
