Fitness for Life is celebrating spring with its grand opening March 25.

The Winnie Lane private gym and yoga center is hosting a day of races, raffles and free demonstrations with any donations going to benefit the Greenhouse Project.

The day will kick off at 9 a.m. with a 5K run up Ash Canyon. The event starts at 10 a.m. inside the 10,000 square-foot gym with food, drinks, 10-minute massages and free yoga class demos every half hour.

A pull-up challenge is being sponsored by Well-Being Massage Therapy and Functional Fitness, which leases space in the gym.

Fitness for Life is owned by Rich and Kathy King, who bought the business in August.

Rich King was a trainer for six years with the gym that previously occupied the space, Fitness Defined.

“I’m known for my six-week transformation challenge,” said King, which he describes as metabolic and strength training and offers on a one-on-one basis or in small groups.

He also offers Tough Mutter obstacle training and extreme training for Spartan competitions as well as a 28-day beach body program starting in May.

The gym is also relaunching its yoga program in April in an updated and redesigned room.

New classes will include Vinyasa Flow, Strengthen and Tone, Barre (using a ballet barre), Gentle, Restorative and Yin.

King says the goal is to offer yoga practitioners who now drive to Reno an option to stay here in Carson City.

The private gym offers personal training from a number of trainers. Clients can also use the gym, which is generally open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and has treadmills, ellipticals, weight and other equipment as well as locker rooms, on off days as long as their trainer is there.

“What’s different is this is a private gym so it’s never crowded,” said King. “As a trainer, you never have to wait for equipment. I think my clients get better results.”

The grand opening on Saturday is open to the public.
