Carson Middle School’s Allen Mayoral won the 120-pound seventh-grade title and Jesse Sapien, also of CMS, won the 125-pound eighth-grade title at the postseason meet Saturday in Lovelock.

Eagle Valley had three second-place finishers — Denton Fitzpatrick (7th, 115-pounds), Zach Remer (8th, 85), and Zach Gafford (7th, 135). Carson Middle had four second-place finishers — Ariel Vega (8th, 100), Luis Mayoral (8th, 105), Gabe Madera (8th, 150) and Jeremy Heaton (8th, 160).

Carson Middle had three third-place finishers — Eric Hickson (7th, 135), Danny McKee (8th, 90) and Izayah Pando (8th, 135). Kory Grist (8th, 130) and Connor Lampert (8th, 150) were the EVMS third-place finishers.

Mackenzie Tackett from Eagle Valley was fourth at 120 in the seventh-grade tourney and Anthony Alvarado was fourth in the 150-pound eighth-grade class for EVMS. Gabe Allen (7th, 110), Ben Heaton (7th, 125) and Dominic Baumgardner (7th, 165) were Carson Middle fourth-place finishers.


Silver State takes 2nd

Silver State Gymnastics finished second at the Nevada State Championships in Reno over the weekend.

A total of 18 clubs competed in the annual event.

Emily Lewis was second on the bars and second all-around in the Level 6 middle division, and Eviana McGowan was second on the floor for the locals. In the Level 3 older division, Tabby Thompson was second on vault and bars and third in floor exercise. Brooklyn Gundy finished third on vault and third in floor exercise.


Booster Golf tourney set

Registration for the annual Booster Club Golf Tournament at Edgewood is open.

The tourney takes place May 6-7.

The event benefits Whittell and South Tahoe high schools.

Joseph wins at EV

Dennis Joseph shot a net 70 to win first place in Flight A at the recent Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event played at Eagle Valley-West.

Nick Paul took second with a 72, and Jim Shabi was a stroke back at 73.

Geoff Swann won Flight B with a 65, three shots ahead of Jay Stuart and six ahead of Al Giannotti. Myron Carpenter won Flight C with a 65, five shots better than Adam Huber and seven better than Jerry Ventura.


Tigersharks fare well

Three Carson Tigershark swimmers fared well at a Junior Olympic meet recently.

Nick Melsheimer, 12, won the 50 free in 24.52 and placed second in the 100 free at 55.83. He took third in the 50 butterfly (28.13) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:04.11), and was fifth in the 50 breast (33.87) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:15.22).

Matteas Klatt, 13, won the 1000 free (16:49.44) and took second in the 1650 free (18:03.

He was third in the 500 free (5:14.05) and racked up fifth-place finishes in the 100 (52.23) and 200 free (1:55.09) events.

Katarina Klatt, 12, was second in the 200 free (2:16.58), third in the 100 free (59.4) and 200 back (2:24.92), and fourth in the 50 free (27.94) and fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:32.28).


Couples golf tournament planned

Eagle Valley Golf Course is the site of a couples golf tournament on Sunday.

The two-player best-ball tournament will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
