Soup’s On stresses blue for law enforcement in Carson City

Green, yellow, orange and, especially, blue were the colors of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce’s Wednesday lunch.

Former Carson City Manager Linda Ritter made a presentation on True Colors, a system developed by Don Lowry in 1978 and used by human resource departments to identify personality types.

The event at the Gold Dust West was sponsored by Campagni Auto Group to honor the Carson City’s Sheriff’s Office.

“With the dangerous things they get into I think it’s important to recognize them,” said Dana Whaley, general manager, Carson City Toyota.

A memorial event to honor Nevada’s fallen police officers is being held May 4 at the Legislative Plaza.

Whaley had planned to provide everyone with blue lights for their front porches to honor the officers, but the delivered items didn’t work.

“We’re working right now to find something a little better, we’ll have something before the event so look forward to that,” he said.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong said a baton with the names of slain officers will leave Las Vegas on April 26, carried through the state by a relay of officers to the Capitol.

“It’s an enormously good feeling to know we have the community behind us when we do some of the challenging things we do,” said Furlong.

Ritter walked the lunch group through a questionnaire to determine which color group each person belonged in.

The categories ranged from energetic orange to peacemaking blue to organized yellow and perfectionist green.

The purpose, said Ritter, is to use the personality test to assemble teams of employees who work well together.

“If you’re in harmony with other people on the team you get results,” said Ritter. “If you’re in conflict, there is a lack of effectiveness and innovation.”
