Nevada Wolf Pack basketball signs another 4-year transfer

RENO — University of Nevada head men’s basketball coach Eric Musselman has signed high-scoring shooting guard Nisré Zouzoua to a scholarship agreement to play for the Wolf Pack in 2018-19.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Zouzoua transfers to Nevada from Bryant and will have two seasons to play for the Pack after sitting out next season under NCAA transfer rules.

“We are so excited to add a player like Nisré to our program,” Musselman said. “He ranked 34th in the country in points per game and shot an impressive 37 percent from three. He is a dynamic player that can really score the ball from all three levels. Even more important, he is an extremely high character young man that will fit in with our current players right away.”

Zouzoua is the third transfer to sign with Nevada in the last week.

He joins forwards Tre’Shawn Thurman from Omaha and Marquez Letcher-Ellis from Rice who signed scholarship agreements to play for the Wolf Pack.

This past season he averaged 20.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game starting 29-of-31 games for the Bulldogs. From the field he shot 40.9 percent, 36.7 percent from behind the arc making 92-of-251 attempts and was good on 76.9 percent of his free throws making 120-of-156.

He scored in double figures in 30-of-31 games and netted 20 or more points in 17 games which includes two 30-point contests. At Louisiana-Monroe, he scored 30 points and had a career-high 31 at Brown. Against national runner up Gonzaga on the road, he tied for game high honors with 22 points.

A first-team Northeast Conference selection, he led the conference in eight categories; points per game (20.3), total points (628), 3-pointers made (92), 3-pointers attempted (251), 3-pointers made per game (2.97), 3-point field goal percentage (36.7), made field goals (208) and field goals attempted (508). Nationally he was 22nd in field goal attempts, 32nd in 3-pointers made per game, 34th in scoring, 35th in 3-pointers attempted, 48th in total 3-pointers made, and 58th in total points.

His 156 free throws attempted and 120 made ranked sixth in the NEC. Playing 35.32 minutes per game was third in the conference and 53rd nationally and his 1,102 total minutes was fifth in the NEC. Defensively he averaged 1.45 steals per game that was good for seventh in the conference and his 45 total steals ranked ninth.

Zouzoua averaged 12.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists his freshman season starting 25 of the 31 games in which he played. His two-year career averages are 16.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. From the field he has connected on 40.9 percent of his attempts, 36.8 from behind the arc and 79.6 percent at the free throw line in two collegiate seasons.

As a prep athlete he played his final two seasons at Boston Trinity Academy helping them to back-to-back NEPSAC Championships. Twice he was named Player of the Year and scored 1,000 points in his two seasons. The NEPSAC Championship MVP was a two-time Boston Glob All-Scholastic selection. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Brockton High School before attending Boston Trinity Academy.
