The Nevada Board of Regents has called a special May 9 meeting to consider naming John White permanent chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education.

White has been acting chancellor since June 2016. Since then, the board conducted a national search that interviewed several candidates for the post.

Chairman Rick Trachok said he regarded White as “the gold standard for the characteristics and qualities we wanted in our next leader.”

He said he has asked the board confirm White as the permanent chancellor for the system that serves more than 106,000 students.

The board will discuss White’s contract at the May 9 meeting.

The system consists of two universities, a state college and four community colleges including Western Nevada College in Carson City.
