Tiresome business: San Francisco is recovering from the visitations of fire and earthquake. There is no city where such high wages prevail and everyone who wants work can get it at the highest wages in the country. Then the telephone girls went on strike. They had lunch, went out, and simply got together and tied up the telephone service of the entire city.

Wonder camp miners: Wonder camp is without a minister. A miner died in the camp, and there was no preacher or Bible in the camp. Rev. Mears wired to Oakland has received word that Rev. Charles P. Brown is on his way.

Mother’s Day tribute to Mary Peppin (in part):

There is a dear sweet lady who runs the Capitol Café,

Just down the middle of the street in Carson City gay.

For she gives dinners with a big and happy smile.

Yes, she is just a generous woman with eyes that always see,

The misery and sadness not plain to you and me.

And she know the joys of living, all that makes life worthwhile.
