Freeway art an asset
Now that the Interstate 580 freeway is nearing completion through Carson City, a thank you goes out to Mary Fischer and GROW (Gardeners Reclaiming our Waysides), for their frustration, dedication and persistence with getting funds and grants for beautification of the freeway through our area.
We can drive from the large metal eagle at the north end at Lakeview hill to the south end of Carson City at the Highway 50 junction to Lake Tahoe where another large metal eagle denotes our Eagle Valley.
Entering from the east on Highway 50 you will see a metal cutout of the V&T train overhead on the bridge.
The many talents from the people involved in the work and construction of the freeway are great — from the metal works of people and animals on the bridge overpass to the murals at the portals under the bridges visualizing the transportation eras over the years.
Take the time to leave the freeway and explore the different areas to appreciate the concrete design of the Sierra to the west and the rolling hills to the east on the sound walls.
Thanks to NDOT for continuing the beautification to the freeways in Reno.
