The City Election. Apparently, there was not much interest taken in the city election. Mayor Berney had no opposition. There were two candidates in each of the three wards; a very light vote was polled. It did not take long to determine the result.

Wingfield says Churchill Co. Bank will Loan Money at a Low Interest Rate. George Wingfield, president of the Churchill County Bank, with other very extensive interests in this community, came down from Reno Thursday and has been spending a few days here on business. He gives out the information that the C. C. Bank will make loans to beet growers at a very low rate of interest. Mr. Wingfield has proven himself a benefactor to the people of this county through the bringing in of the dairy cows and lending a helping hand to those who were in need of assistance.

Dear Mom: Everyone in camp here has been busy writing letters to reach home in time for Mother’s Day. There is a war on, and we have a job to do, but we are all thinking of our mothers, nonetheless. Truth is, we are thinking about you and home more than ever these days because it gives us a clear idea of what we are fighting for. We are all fighting for our country—and to us that means everything. It means the United States, it means our town, and most of all it means our home. It means our folks like you and dad. We are all working hard at our jobs, too, because winning a war is not the simplest thing in the world. But we want to get it over with as soon as we can, and get back home to greet you in person on a future spring morning with a “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. Your Son.

Final Disbanding of CCC in Fallon Effected. Final disbandment of Fallon CCC camps was effected as of May 12. Only two kinds of CCC camps will be continued. Those that are doing war work for the United States Army, and those engaged in fire prevention and fighting work for the U. S. Forest Service. Only 150 camps will remain all over the nation, of the more than 2,000 such camps in operation at the peak of CCC history.

Students Should Obtain Social Security Numbers Now. Students who will be taking a job for the first time and will need a Social Security number were urged by Art Johnson, Social Security district manager, to apply now and avoid the June rush.

All-Night Senior Party Planned. A special meeting for the Senior All-Night party was held recently in the City Council chambers. Many plans were discussed and decided on. A number of parents were there, but more are needed for chaperones.
