Dayton students earn Eagle Scout badge

Two students from Dayton High School earned the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America on Saturday.

An Eagle Scout court of honor ceremony was held for Jared Logan and Oakley Workman at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dayton.

The scouts are members of Boy Scout Troop 402, sponsored by the Dayton Ward of the LDS church.

To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle project.

For his project, Workman refurbished and recatalogued several graves at Dayton Cemetery.

Logan held a disc golf tournament and raised several hundred pounds of food for the Dayton Food Pantry.

Among other accomplishments, Workman is valedictorian and Logan salutatorian of DHS’s graduating class.

In addition to finishing high school, both are also earning associate degrees through Western Nevada College’s Jump Start program.
