Richard Clay Wainscott, a resident of Dayton, Nevada, died Monday, November 13, 2017.


Richard was born to Leatta Rae (Thorpe) and Richard Wainscott in San Diego, California on December 21, 1952. He graduated from Crawford High School in 1971, where he was an active member of the drama department, staring in plays such as “Oklahoma!”, and was on the football team.


Richard served in the United States Air Force from 1976 – 1980 as a firefighter, achieving the rank of Sergeant by the time he was honorably discharged. Richard attended Antelope Valley College, obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science Technologies which allowed him to serve as Fire Captain at Lockheed in Lancaster, California.


In the early 1990’s Richard shifted careers to become a Public Safety Communications Officer at Kern County Sheriff’s Department. In the late 1990’s, Richard moved to Carson City, Nevada, where he became a Public Safety Communications Officer for the Carson City Sheriff’s Department. During his time there, he assisted the department in achieving the budget to upgrade their equipment and usher in a new era for their Communications Center. After several years at Carson City Sheriff’s Department, Richard began working at Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, where he became a Public Safety Communications Supervisor and a Crisis Team Negotiator.


In his off time, Richard was an active member of the community. He enjoyed acting and directing with various theatre troupes in the cities he lived in, attending and photographing auto and air races, and being an active part of the Baptist Church in his community. He enjoyed sharing his love of theatrical arts, photography, music, sports and aviation with others.


Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard; his mother, Leatta; his eldest sister Barbara Ann (Wainscott) McKay; and his nephew John Lester Wicklander.


He is survived by his older sister, Susan Jane Wainscott; his daughters, Lauren Michelle Wainscott, Amanda Jane (Wainscott) Martinez, Melissa Ann Wainscott; his step-daughter, Ashley Dawn Lyford-McGowan; his grandson, Rafael Ayres Lehi Cardenas; his granddaughter Alannah Grace Martinez; and his grandnephew Isaiah DeJon Jackson.


A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11 am at the Calvary Baptist Church, 4 Flowery Ave, Dayton, NV with services to follow at 1:30 pm at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, Fernley, Nevada.
