Dorothy E. (Dottie) Austin

Dorothy E. (Dottie) Austin, long-time Fallon resident, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2017, with her family at her side.

She was born July 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1945. She met and married Erb W. Austin later that year and they were married on December 1, 1945 in Burbank, California. They then moved to Reno and were there until 1951 when they moved to Fallon, where they owned and operated the Austin Funeral Home for almost 30 years.

Dorothy was a member and past president of the Fallon Branch of AAUW (American Association of University Women), a 50-year and past president of Xi Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a member of Eastern Star in Fallon and Past President of PEO Chapter D in Fallon. She also served on the board of the Fallon Library for 10 years during the building of the new library.

Surviving members of her family include her Daughters Sheila Pontius and Colleen Palludan, Son-in-Law Ernie Pontus, Grandchildren Travis Hansen, Trisha Hansen and Cami Palludan, Daughter-in-Law Elyse Hansen and Great Grand-daughters Elliot Maeve Hansen and Remi Royal Hansen.

Dottie lived a long and meaningful life. She loved all her family and friends and her legacy will live on with all who knew and loved her.

Private funeral services were held with her family in attendance at the Smith family Funeral Home in Fallon, Nevada.
