Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Keystone Club members selling homemade items at Sassabrationin July. The members are also selling dining cards to help fund their national conference in May.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, in conjunction with the Nevada Appeal, is selling dining cards featuring coupons from more than a dozen local restaurants. Proceeds will help fund tween and teen leadership programs, Torch and Keystone clubs.
The dining cards can be used throughout the year. The cards feature deals such as buy one get one free, coupons for a discount off the entire bill, and more are available. Some coupons may be used multiple times.
The two leadership clubs are focused on expanding youth leadership skills through educational programs and community partnerships, such as with the Nevada Appeal.
Keystone Club is for high school students with a focus on academic success, career preparation and community service in and outside of the club. Keystone members run the snack bar at the club, participate in community events and community service projects, and clean up at the club.
Torch Club is for middle school students to build character and mentorship through service inside the club. Torch Club members mentor younger club members, with many of them later joining the Leadership In Training program and transition to working for the club.
The money raised will also go toward funding the trip to the National Boys & Girls Clubs conference next May where members will network with and learn from other Keystone clubs.
“The national conference is such a great opportunity for our youth to connect with other Keystone members, share ideas, and learn from one another,” said Katie Leao, executive director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada. “It expands how our members view leadership and the value of community, and gets them excited to give back to the community that supports them and help them grow into the leaders of tomorrow.”
The dining cards are also a way for the club to give back to Carson City, said Leao.
“Most of the restaurants have given to the club in one way or another and this is a way for us to give back to them,” Leao said. “The dining cards are a great way for us to provide something of value to the community while supporting the businesses, the club and the teens.”
The dining cards will be sold through September for $20 each. They can be purchased in-person at the Boys & Girls Club, at 1870 Russell Way; the Nevada Appeal, at 580 Mallory Way; or online at bit.ly/diningcards.
