Chad Hicks has been appointed director of elementary curriculum, instruction and assessment (ECIA) in educational services for the Carson City School District. He began his role with the district earlier this summer.
“We welcome Mr. Hicks in his new role,” said Richard Stokes, CCSD superintendent. “He will provide valuable and dynamic support to our district as we further pursue success in the learner-center instruction practice that is improving student achievement districtwide. I look forward to working alongside him as he becomes familiar with this new assignment.”
In his position, Hicks will provide leadership, supervision, guidance and support for various pre-K to fifth grade (pre-5) programs including elementary literacy; math, science, social studies and other curriculum; elementary instruction; elementary accountability and elementary assessment. The position also assists with extensive curriculum and professional development, improving academic achievement, policy development and analysis, policy interpretation and coordination of CCSD instructional programs.
Hicks previously served as a leader and administrator in various capacities with the Washoe County School District. Those include but aren’t limited to area superintendent in the Office of School Performance, school improvement grant “Turnaround” principal, Title I coordinator, principal, assistant principal dean of students and math and science facilitator. With nearly 23 years of education experience, the position that has impacted his life most was teaching students in grades 4 and 6.
He earned a master’s in education administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s in public programs from Arizona State University.
In 2014, Hicks was a recipient of the Freedom Award, the highest civilian honor, recognized by the Department of Defense’s Employees Support of the Guard Reserve. The secretary of Defense offered the award for Hick’s recovery efforts from the Sparks Middle School shooting. He also holds memberships with several professional organizations including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the American Association of School Administrators and the National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators.
