Douglas football game canceled

The Douglas High football game scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Union Mine in El Dorado, California was canceled.

Union Mine decided to cancel the game due to a student safety issue.

Douglas coach Ernie Monfiletto said an offer was made for Douglas to host the game either Friday or Saturday, but in the end the game was canceled and won’t be rescheduled.

Monfiletto said he was most disappointed for his players.

“That’s terrible,” said Monfiletto about the players not receiving the chance to play. “Those seniors get one less chance to compete as seniors.

“Heartbreaking for those kids — all of those kids,” added Monfiletto about his entire team. “Upsetting those kids don’t get the chance to play.”
