The Sierra Lutheran boys basketball team rolled to a 67-19 win over Smith Valley on Tuesday. The Falcons led 16-6 after one quarter, 38-10 at halftime and 57-19 after three quarters before holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the fourth quarter.
“Our defense played really well. We were able to force a number of turnovers that led to some easy scores for us. Defense is going to be what carries us through the season. Proud of these boys, especially being able to hold them to 5 points in the second half,” Sierra Lutheran coach Ben Walther said.
Luke Bonafede had 17 points and five steals, Thomas Mellum had three steals, Luke Schinzing had three assists Zane Warkentin scored 10 points and Logan Schinzing added 12 points for the Falcons.
Sierra Lutheran girls fall
Sierra Lutheran girls lost 45-28 against Smith Valley on Tuesday. Freshman Ava Mellum had 12 points and five rebounds, Amanda Almeida had eight points and three rebounds and Katie Boogman had two points and seven rebounds for the Falcons.
“I was really proud of our hard work and our teamwork this evening. We lost some steam in the fourth quarter, but our work in practice is paying off,” Sierra Lutheran coach Danika Neal said.
