Alex Wells won the title at 160 pounds to lead the Carson High wrestling team at the Lovelock Mustang Invitational last weekend.
Wells won by pin in the finals to take the title. David Remer also took second for the Senators. Carson finished eighth as a team.
On the junior varsity level, Gabriel Madera placed first and Eric Hickson took third for CHS.
CHS girls basketball falls
The Carson High girls basketball team nearly overcame a huge deficit before Spanish Springs pulled away for a 51-35 win on Friday.
CHS trailed 16-3 after one quarter, 29-13 at halftime and 37-24 after three quarters but went on an 11-0 run to pull to within 37-35 with four minutes left in the game.
The Cougars, though, used their full court pressure to finish the game on a 14-0 run.
“I was proud of the girls,” Carson coach Doug Whisler said. “They battled real hard to come back from that deficit. We’re getting better every single game.”
Abby Golik hit four three-pointers on her way to scoring 16 points and Lilly Bouza added 10 points for Carson, who was without three key players. Tezia Boice was out with a strained back, Camille Kordonowy was out with a concussion and Bella Kordonowy has been out all season with an ACL injury she sustained last season.
All three are expected back when CHS next plays on Dec. 26 as it opens a tournament in Tracy, Calif., against McKinleyville.
CHS boys basketball falls
Carson lost to Spanish Springs, 71-44, on Friday. CHS trailed 26-7 after one quarter, 48-18 at halftime and 62-28 after three quarters.
Sierra Lutheran boys win
The Sierra Lutheran boys basketball team rolled to a 56-28 win over Coleville at home on Friday. The Falcons jumped out to a 19-2 lead after the first quarter, led 43-11 at halftime and 53-22 after three quarters.
Hunter Lamprecht had eight points and eight rebounds, Nathan Waite had two assists and five steals, Zan Warkentin scored 15 points and Logan Schinzing added 10 points for Sierra Lutheran.
“I thought that our defensive intensity was great from the start,” Sierra Lutheran coach Ben Walther said. “Tonight was one of our best nights of playing team basketball and sharing the ball. Great win.”
Sierra Lutheran also won the junior varsity boys game 45-32.
Sierra Lutheran girls fall
The Sierra Lutheran girls basketball team lost to Coleville, 38-22. Freshman Ava Mellum had seven points and eight rebounds for the Falcons.
