Churchill County Middle School’s volleyball teams dominated Coral Academy Tuesday, both seventh- and eighth-graders winning in two.
In their first set the seventh-graders started opening their lead early. The Lady Falcons held on though, closing the gap and tying the game. It was not enough, though, and Fallon continued to push ahead, expanding their lead and ending the set 25-13.
The Lady Wave brought hard pressure in the second set. Though the Falcons opened with a lead, Fallon quickly outpacing Coral Academy, 25-8.
Seventh-grade coach Lynnaday Mort said her team played well. She said the team did well serving and passing the ball.
“Everyone played the first two games,” Mort said. “I was really impressed with everyone’s enthusiasm and their ability out there.”
The eighth-grade girls played a tight match, keeping the Lady Falcons below 10 points in each set. Fallon’s Charyce Pamsey was a strong server, single-handedly opening Fallon to 17-0 in the first set. Though they played hard, the Falcons could not threaten Fallon’s lead and closed the set 25-5.
The second set played out much the same. Errors led to numerous turnovers during Coral’s serves while the Lady Wave delivered precision spikes and aces, 25-6.
Eighth-grade coach Nicole Rogne said it was a great game. She noted Pamsey had a great serve period to start the game.
The coaches noted this is Coral Academy’s first year playing volleyball and their teams are relatively inexperienced.
Fallon’s eighth-graders are undefeated in the Sagebrush League. The competition is tough though and they will have to play their best.
“We just need to stay aggressive,” Rogne said.
Mort said the seventh-grade team is doing well this season. She said they’re expecting tough competition from Yerington and Fernley.
“We lost to them there a couple days ago,” Mort said of Yerington. “So we’ll play them again and that’ll probably be the toughest team we see during the season for league play.”
Most of the remaining league matches will be at home. Fallon’s middle schoolers played Silver Stage Thursday and their next match takes them to Dayton on Feb. 13.
