ALBANY, Calif. — David Remer won the 170-pound title and Kyle Rudy placed second at 138 pounds to lead Carson High’s wrestling team to a ninth-place finish at Saturday’s Albany Invitational.

“We wrestled OK,” Carson coach Nick Redwine said. “We could have done better, but overall we had a decent showing. David wrestled well.”

Jesse Case was DQ’d for skin lesions and didn’t wrestle. Bryce Newhall (160) and Ariel Vega (106) both placed fourth. Damien Branco was fifth at 113, and Ty Evans (195) and Alex Wells (152) both placed seventh.

Carson visits Douglas on Wednesday.


BOYS BASKETBALL

Dayton rolls Sparks

DAYTON — Trevor Burrows scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Tyler Stolfich added 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Dayton past Sparks, 61-47.

Dayton took control of the game in the second quarter when it scored 24 points.

Chase Peterson scored nine points and had five steals and Lance Peterson added six points.

Sparks outlasts Dayton

DAYTON — The Dust Devils overcame a 16-point first-half deficit late in the third quarter, but Sparks righted its ship and won, 41-31, Saturday afternoon.

“We had a slow, slow first half,” Dayton coach Kelly Frantz said. “We couldn’t score any points. We came out swinging in the second half, but we couldn’t close it out.

“I thought we came out after halftime wanting the game much more and everything started to come together. We didn’t hit our free throws (7 for 22).”

Tamia Powell and Hannah Coltrin each had eight points and six rebounds. Aleea Howe had six points and five rebounds while Faith Reid had five points.

Sparks edged Dayton, 24-23, in the JV game. Morgan Boehme had 10 points and four rebounds for Dayton.
